General Procedure
-
Here, at NARA, you can’t even have food and drink in your backpack (they search it thoroughly at the door). Other places, you must leave your backpack at the door, but you can put in it whatever you like. So don’t show up with your bagged lunch.
- When filling out a call slip here, its helpful to have not just the manuscript collection ID number, but also the shelf location information.
Miscellaneous
The US Archives over the years have produced voluminous amount of microfilm collections. Philadelphia's regional branch only has some of these collections (they're all archived at NARA's central offices in MD). The archives don’t really have an interlibrary loan system, but you can try looking through Haverford's interlibrary loan or Tripod to see if we have the microfilm. Ask a Haverford librarian for help if you're having trouble locating it. If all else fails, ask Gail and she MIGHT be able to help you get it from another NARA location, though its not guaranteed.
Appointments
Here, more than other places like HSP, its important to make an appointment because librarians are so helpful in finding material that you would probably never find on your own.
